So I played around with .htaccess to prevent hot-linking. I used cPanel to generate the rules, then I played with them. I need Google Reader, Bloglines, Livejournal, etc. to be able to display the images. It got too complicated so I decided it was more trouble than it was worth. I used cPanel to turn off the hotlink protection.
Then I headed over to mom's, to Costoco, to Bellingham for coffee, to the gym, back to mom's and then home. I got home and realized I had no hits to Rat's Reading since I left. I go to my home page, and that comes up. But every single post errors out.
I look at the logs. I poke around for 5 minutes or so. Then I realized that cPanel turned off the Rewrite engine when it turned off hotlink protection. The Rewrite engine is required to display individual posts. I turned it back on.
And here I thought I was going to go a month with every day having 20 or more hits. But I fear google and other search engines may have flagged my site as down, and it will take a while for their indexes to be updated.
