New rule

I have decided to adopt a modified version of Nancy Pearl's guideline on reading books. If I am not engaged within 100 pages, I am going to put the book down. (Her rule is 50 pages.) I mention this because I am 58 pages into William Martin's The Lost Constitution and it's just not grabbing me.

50 pages in, and still no macguffin. At least 6 characters in the 1780s. 5+ characters from the 2000s, not including the 2 dead guys. In other words, two major plots in different times, one with murders for no explained reason and no connection to the main characters. Oh, I have a basic idea what will happen from the plot synopsis, but it's just dragging getting there.
