Went to see Gramps around 8 p.m. Everyone else who had been visiting had left by that point. He was somewhat cold, but otherwise looked fine and said he felt fine. However, after he ate he couldn't keep any of his food down. So I spent much of the time holding the barf bucket for him. They gave him some anti-nausea medication, but it didn't take effect like it was supposed to. He finally nodded off around 10:30 or so, the medication sedating him as well. Before the medication took effect, he was shivering something fierce even with the temperature in the room set at high.

I'll be taking Gram to the hospital around 9. Hopefully they can discharge Gramps. He was supposed to be there for observation due to some tightness in his chest, but I wonder if he has a touch of the flu or some other contagion. In his condition, any disease is life-threatening.

Also, I had a little verklempt moment. After Gramps started nodding off, I started text messaging a friend to take my mind off things. Erin's the best. I don't know what I'd do without her.

In addition, thank you Jason, Keenan, Deirdre, Kim, and the mentors and students in Steps Ahead and Beyond at Chief Sealth. And really, several other people as well. I'm glad to have solid people to rely on.
