I got up this morning around 8, or 8:30, or perhaps 9. I can't really remember. I'm staying at the Red Victorian. It's a hotel owned by a former (current?) flower child. It feels like it lost that vibe years ago though it still has lots of peace artwork for sale in the cafe.
In fact, the rest of the Haight seems to have lost everything that made it the bastion of hippies. There's a few
groovystyle decorations in a few shops. The streets are crawling with the young, rootless, and alterna-fashionable.
That's not to say it is a bad place. The pretty people ogling is nice. ANd there's decent shopping at mostly non-chain places. Plus a fair amount of decent food here.
After breakfast, I met up with Dan at the Panhandle park. I don't know if that's it's real name or not. But it does have a kids playground a couple of blocks from his place. From there we wandered down to the Newhouse where he and his wife have a membership. We wandered through the galleries there for a bit before heading back. We didn't stay too long because Victor woke up and Dan didn't have the diaper bag with him. That meant that if Victor decided to poop his pants it would be a 45 minute walk before he got them changed.
Then we played with Victor a while at his place, but since Victor was being cranky, we've bagged any plans for the evening. I'm gonna give a guy I've played World of Warcraft with a call and see if he wants to meet for a beer.
I travel the most exciting.
