Heroes
Finally finished watching the Tivo-ed Heroes marathon, the first six episodes.

I have to say I don't quite get it. Don't get me wrong. I'm a sucker for super-powers. So I'll probably watch the show some more. But man is the plotting and acting in this show bad. I'll watch it just to see the super-powers revealed. Kind of like back in the day when I watched Incredible Hulk mostly for the twice-an-episode transformations into the hulk.

Though I have to say I really like the way story-arc television has been getting more popular the last few years. Did it start with 24? There have been a lot of episodic television shows that had story-arcs as background, but it seems like since 24 the idea of a season or multi-season long story told in pieces has been gaining in popularity: 24, Dead Zone, Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Heroes. I'm sure there's one or two others as well. Some of these have a few disconnected episodes thrown in (Dead Zone, BSG).

I believe that Babylon 5 and Space: Above and Beyond predate 24 on the "season-wide arc" timeline; B5 was aiming at a 5 season arc (which got munged by a panicked 4th season rewrite because they were told they had only one more season after the third - then it was renewed midway through the 4th season).

I found it got more addictive the further you get into it...

I think there were only one or two more episodes past the marathon. I just don't get what the attraction is for those who aren't super-power geeks.

I think there are five more. I like finding out how the characters will link up. Love Hiro, can't stand Niki.

Heroes is one of my favorite shows. The last month has been driving me crazy with no new episodes. I don't suppose you caught the threes episodes they played on NBC last night? I think it was episodes 7 through 9.

Nope. Didn't catch em. I don't have my cable hooked up right at the moment.

Prison Break also does the story-arc.

Oh man, Heroes has been great. Personally I have no issues with the acting and I think the story line is hidden enough to not quite get it, but it does all come together. Side note as well: Heroes was only slated for 13 episodes as a mini-series. November was supposed to be the final episode and that is why the early episodes have a definate direction "save the cheerleader, save the world" The show, however became more watched and popular than expected much like BSG when it aired as a mini-series. So they decided to change up some the story line, have a mid-season break and come back Jan 22 for the rest of the season.
Another show that I was shocked to find out was good was The Lost Room, a mini-series aired on Sci-Fi. Unfortunately because it is Sci-Fi, they over-budgeted for the final episode because man...I was disappointed. The rest of the show, very well done.
