the crawdad may not be dead. he may be shedding, or you may just be seeing his shed shell (he's fooled me many times with that trick- once they shed, their shells are not hardened, so they typically hide pretty damn good while they're "curing").
if he is dead, get a new crawdad right away- he will eat the old, dead one. if you don't get a new crawdad right away, remove the body. the decomposing crawdad will turn the water toxic.
