Scopes Trial

The Smithsonian recently found some some photos from the Scopes Monkey Trial. This is the famous trial of a schoolteacher who dared to teach evolution. Clarence Darrow defended him and William Jennings Bryan prosecuted. Not well remembered though is the fact that John Scopes purposefully did this to challenge the law. He wasn't exactly hauled off in chains, nor was it unexpected. He lost, paid a $100 fine, and the case was later overturned on appeal on a technicality. Nearly a century later, Christian fundamentalists are still trying to keep evolution out of schools.

I don't plan to delete my LJ (I paid for permanent status, dammit), but this will be the last post. I don't plan to read it anymore, either…

  • Unemployed

Turns out my insurance is cut off at midnight tonight, not the end of the month. In a way, that's a good thing. Now I'll move my appointment…

  • Home from the cruise, off to Sunnyvale

A week off, but tomorrow I head to the home office for a week there.
