Catastrophic tsunami possible on West Coast
http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2004-12/osu-ctp122704.php

Worried because we live near sea level? At least one person has told me they are. It could be bad, but the Northwest is better prepared.

Hmm. I'm thinking we should be pretty safe in Seattle, since Seattle's not really a "coastal" city. I'm sure the water level would change, but I'm not sure if it would be a raging wall of water like the one that just wiped out all these people. Places like Los Angeles would be a bigger concern (a mostly flat, expansive city on the coast of the Pacific).

I don't see any point in worrying about something we can't do anything to prevent. Moving, maybe. Buying life insurance, good idea. But otherwise our time is better spent helping the folks already impacted by the disaster rather than worrying about if or when it will happen to us.

For anyone who wants to contribute to aid programs, my friend has links in his LJ: http://www.livejournal.com/users/crpg_empusae/258245.html
