One of my recurring fantasies/daydreams is that the world becomes mostly depopulated. I love end of the world and other mass calamity stories. I loved the first part of Stephen King's The Stand. One of my favorite movies of all time is Night of the Comet which used to be a staple of cheesy late night HBO and Showtime. As I go about my days, I frequently will look at buildings & rooms as to whether or not I would want to take that over if the world population disappeared. For instance, I stayed at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last week. So today as I am walking down the hallway after getting my sandwich from the shop downstairs, I started thinking about a hotel that big, and what I could do with it if no one else were around. We stayed on the 18th floor. Lots of floors with smallish rooms. Man, that would make a great personal library. Rooms for each sub-genre wanted to keep. Although I probably wouldn't need quite so many bathrooms. I'm not sure what I would do with them. And I think of how easy it would be to hide from someone in a building that big. You know, if like me and one other person survived. I could disappear into the casinos of Las Vegas and the one or two people left would never find me.
