Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle

I saw this movie with mrsloane Sunday. Considering it was made by the people who made Dude, Where's My Car? I went in with low expectations. Surprisingly, I thought this was a much more intelligent and funny movie than Dude. Dude was a big user of humor through repetition. Which, while funny, leaves you walking away feeling like you should have waited for the DVD.

But the thing that I liked most about the movie was that it features an Indian and a Korean as the heroes and stars. While there's some racial bits in the movie, the thrust of the movie is not about Harold and Kumar's race, or about them overcoming discrimination. They are intelligent (if a bit slackerish) normal people. And they get the munchies after smoking pot and want to go to White Castle.

Makes me think back to Gene, a kid I met when I was in college. He bragged about his can shooter. You know, so I can shoot Afri-cans, Puerto Ri-cans, Domini-cans. Fuck you Gene. Regular people. Ameri-cans. See this movie Gene. These are the immigrants and children of immigrants that I know. Normal people. Who get cravings to go to White Castle.
