Picked this book up for $1 at the Friends of the Seattle Public Library sale a month or so ago. Upon reading it, I found out I was woefully ignorant of 75% of the crap that was the Watergate affair. Holy shit! I'd always kind of bought into the conventional wisdom among my generation that it was the cover-up that got Nixon in trouble. Oh no… It was the cover-up that got him caught, but he still would have been impeached and indicted had the original crimes become known first. Hell, they planned to fire-bomb the Brookings Institution and only gave it up because Dean had a conscience.
What amazes me now is that the American public returned the Republicans to office in 1980. Makes the return of the Bush clan 8 years later seem tame by comparison. I'll have a hard time ever voting Republican again after reading this.
