A story in today's P-I taken from wire services notes that Democrats are criticizing President Bush over his jokes at the Radio and Television News Correspondents Association annual dinner. A description of the schtick in question:
Bush provided amusing descriptions of photographs Wednesday night during the annual dinner of the Radio and Television News Correspondents Association. Some showed the president in awkward poses as he looked behind furniture in the Oval Office. For those photos, Bush told the audience,Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere ... nope, no weapons over there ... maybe under here?
Oh puhleaze! It's funny. If Al Franken did this bit, the Democrats would be laughing their butts off. Since Bush is making fun of himself, they are up in arms. The criticism might be valid if it were a different kind of joke (e.g., joking about casualties in the war). But it's not. Especially when there is so much more serious and pertinent points over which the administration can be criticized.
