Just got back from Thoroughly Modern Millie at the 5th Avenue Theatre. Didn't like it as much as Flower Drum Son or A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, but it was definitely better than Wizard of Oz.
I didn't like the direction on this production. All the actors looked like they were acting. Didn't like the story because… well… it's the same story as almost every other musical! Some of the music was really good, especially those numbers based on 20s themes. Ones done in a more traditional Broadway style not so much. And I really liked the typewriter scene.
I might have liked it better if a) I wasn't falling asleep during the show. not enough sleep last night. b) someone went with me. Erin was supposed to go but her babysitting gig ended later than it was supposed to and she couldn't make it. Going with a theater geek helps you appreciate a production.
