Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Decided to catch Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines last night before heading to the Mercury. What utter crap! I was expecting a so-so movie, but this failed to live up to even minimal action movie standards. The new terminator wasn't frightening at all. The movie turned the result of the previous movie upside down. I realize they needed to in order to continue the sequels, but did they it worse even. THe point of the previous movie was that people make their own future. Then they turned it around for this one and made it that people's futures are pre-ordained. Except that the fact that the terminator terminates some of the people who survived in the future. So they aren't pre-ordained. Or are they. Fuckin' producers can't make up their minds. The action sequences were lame. The fighting was lame. The new terminator can also control other machines like cars and toasters. Except for some reason she cannot take over Arnie's terminator. He resists and ultimately wins out over her programming. Yeah, that's an uncut spoiler right there. Deal. A) When watching the movie, you'll know immediately that's what she's doing, and B) know immediately that he's resisting, and C) that ultimately he'll beat out the bad programming. You could see this as soon as you learn she can control other machines. Another thing that ticked me off about the movie is it follows Cliffhanger in having the bad guys and good guys instantly find their enemies and somehow always be right behind them. In T2 the whole thrill was the terminator relentlessly coming after John Connor even when he didn't know where John Connor was. This time, it's less the relentless pursuit as the fact that she is everpresent. And it's tiring. As is the man vs. machines conflict as well.

Thus endeth the rant.
