Just finished Douglas Coupland's recent novel, All Families are Psychotic. Eh, not so great a novel. It's a mixture of Coupland and Hiaasen, set in south Florida. Sure all families might be psychotic, but not all are this psychotic, so it's hard to draw any meaning from the story. It comes off as pretentious as hell. However, there are a couple of good plot setups in the story. For instance, the main character is Janet, the mother of a soon to be launched astronaut. She has AIDs, which she contracted when her ex-husband shot her son Wade for unknowingly sleeping with his new trophy wife Nickie and the bullet lodged in her body after passing through the son who had AIDs. Hard to beat a setup like that.
