Sometimes, I just need to be heard

So, according to the omnipresent "they" men listen to a problem and want to find a solution. And women listen a person talking about a problem and it's all about identifying with the emotions.

Perhaps it's mostly true. Lately though, I've had some things rattling around in my head. So I told the other person what was bouncing around up there. Perhaps it was how I phrased it. Perhaps it's just because she expects men to want to fix a problem and therefore guessed that's what I was looking for. An interesting response. But I think I just needed to let the thoughts up there out, and have her listen. A role reversal.

The more I think about it, the more I think most of the time, I just need to bounce those ideas off the other person just to let her know where I am coming from, not so much to fix things.

Maybe it wasn't just this time. Maybe I'm more wired against the stereotype.
