Books

Straight Man by Richard Russo

Just finished reading Straight Man by Richard Russo. I would highly recommend the book. It's fun. But I don't know enough about literary criticism to be able to do this book justice in a review. The only negative thing I have about the book is that the entire punchline seems to be carried in the epilogue. Seeing as how this is a book written by an English profesor, I imagine that there is a reason for that. I suspect that the point of the book lies somewhere before the epilogue. I'm not smart enough to figure out what it is without someone pointing this out to me though. Normally, I don't like being outsmarted by a book. But in this case, the language used, the characters described, and the settings within all conspire to make me enjoy the book nonetheless.
