Monday morning Metro was working on the trolley lines at 3rd and Union. THey had a repair truck positioned under the lines, so no trolleys could pass. Or could they?
The repair crew had one guy stand at the intersection. When the bus would pass, he would grab the ropes to the arms connecting the trolley to the wires. He would then bang the side of the bus. The driver would gun it, and the crewman would run along side. About 10 feet from the repair truck, he'd pull down the arms and the trolley would coast past the repair truck, whereupon the crewman would raise the arms back up and reconnect them to the wires.
All very ingenious I thought.
